The Egyptian People's Papyrus
Special thanks to Neferkiki for this wonderful introduction So you want to write like an Egyptian, huh? Well it took several years for aspiring scribes to learn how to do it, so for the sake of time we'll just cover the basics. Hieroglyphic writing is phonetic... That means symbols stand for certain sounds (unlike the English alphabet where some letters have many sounds or can be silent). Let's start out with an example, the word freight.
DIY Sharpie Tie Die
I love this Sharpie tie die DIY from The Art Girl Jackie blog! She did it with her adorable daughter and I think it’s a fun inspiration for this Spring and upcoming music festival season. Use this technique to spruce up your ratty t-shirts or maybe a pair of of cut off shorts. For another idea, check out how to spruce up your clothes with DIY leopard print here!
Pencil sketches that seem to stand up off the page [12 pictures]
Most of these drawings by Ramon Bruin seem relatively simple, but at the same time, because of their shadows and some intriguingly placed real-life props in the photographs, the sketched images appear to be almost magically leaving the bounds of the paper they’re drawn on… (via My Modern Met)
DIY Picture Tiles - You Will Never Buy a Photo Frame Again
Lately I’ve been having this huge urge to decorate the house. This is big news. I do not decorate. Arguably, one of the reasons why is because I. absolutely. hate. to. buy. mass. produced. decor. (Also, I can’t ever remember if pink and purple go together or not.)
Recycled Pillow Box Favors

Upgraded Origami
Published on October 3rd, 2011. Origami, that awesome paper folding technique we all know about or have seen, has been a popular art form within Japan for many centuries and popularized elsewhere during the mid 1900s (Wikipedia). It is said to help calm the soul, build patience, and really good practice for building things. As the premise is to build 3D forms that are sturdy, look great, and hide all unsightly connecting joints, it is no surprise then the next leap from origami is something like…paper sculpture. I’d like to introduce a Japanese American artist I recently found who creates intricate paper sculptures that look like something carved from marble. His name is Jeff Nishinaka who was born and raised in Los Angeles.

DIY Chan Luu Bracelet «
My goal this holiday season was to really try my best to make some homemade gifts. So far I’m doing pretty well with my wreath, some burlap covered candles, some personalized coasters and this past weekend I gave a try at some jewelry. You may have noticed how wrap bracelets are everywhere lately. Chan Luu bracelets are extremely popular these days. They come in singles and also in wraps.
