frites & fries - Garlic Knots Most of my early food memories had to do with all the garlic dishes that my grandmother made. Preschool-me was so fascinated by the fact that Grandma smelled like garlic 24/7 and I was always so amazed that something so small could create so much flavor. My grandmother’s native Shangdong province uses a lot of garlic in their cooking so it wasn’t surprising to see my mom or my grandmother use up an entire bulb of garlic for a small dinner. Loving garlic is in my blood. When I make something with garlic in it, I tend to go nuts and use way more garlic cloves than necessary because I love using it. Every time I make these garlic knots, I usually use six to eight cloves rather than the four stated by the recipe.

Homemade Corn Dogs With Independence Day falling on a Monday this year, there’s going to be a lot of celebrating over the weekend. If you dance around the foodie blogosphere, you’ll find lots and lots of sweet 4th of July treats out there to choose from, and yes, I’ll be posting one or two as well, but today I wanted to post something a little more savory. Most people like to grill out to celebrate the Fourth, but sometimes it’s too rainy, or maybe even too cold (after my time in Minnesota, I definitely believe it’s possible to have a cold 4th of July).

Pretzel Bread Baking bread, whether as an occupation or as a hobby, is extremely satisfying. Bakers have almost complete control over their bread, requiring little more than some very simple ingredients, time and the willingness to get his or her hands a little messy. Pretzel bread is not quite a simple as flat bread or dinner rolls, but the loaves come out of the oven with a deep, brown pretzel crust and a slightly sweet, tender center. Cake Batter Pancakes I’m fairly convinced that the world would be a better place if more sprinkles were involved. I know. I just made pancakes. It seems I have an unnatural obsession with cake batter. Well I do. Cinnamon Sugar Pull-Apart Bread I’m sorry. I know it’s Monday morning and you probably came here for some pretty pictures of food that you could glance at, and then move on with your day… and here I go thrusting warm, soft cinnamon sugar bread in your face. It’s not fair. I know it’s not fair.

Crispy Potato Roast Recipe Hey Guys! So…it’s still really hot out…wtf! I’m totally ready for fall…forget this, “I just don’t want summer to end” BS…I’m OVER IT! Scallion Cheese Puffs makes about 18 1 cup water 5 extra large eggs 1/2 cup unsalted butter 1 cups gruyere cheese shredded Sourdough Beer Pretzels September 14, 2011 | Print | E-mail | Filed under bread Have you made your sourdough starter yet? In case you have, I wanted to have a sourdough recipe ready for you today so that you can get started with making your own sourdough bread. I adapted this recipe from a sourdough pretzel recipe I found at King Arthur Flour, except that I couldn’t resist adding in some beer for a little extra kick. Some recipes call for “fed” starter, but this one doesn’t – fed starter means that several hours before you’re ready to use your starter in a recipe, you discard half, feed the remaining starter with 1/2 cup warm water and 1 cup flour, and then let it sit at room temperature 4 hours or until bubbly again. Then, remove the portion you’ll be using in a recipe, as the starter has already been fed.

Homemade Nutella Recipe If you ask me, Nutella should be considered one of the four main food groups. This chocolate-hazelnut spread has it all: healthy fat and protein from nuts, heart-healthy antioxidants from the dark chocolate, a touch of sweetness to fulfill that…um…sugar requirement…okay, so it’s not quite ready for a starring role on the food pyramid. Who cares, when it tastes so good? The problem with traditional Nutella–in addition to its addicting flavor–is that it’s loaded with modified palm oil. If you’re like me, and you want your guilty pleasures to come with a little less guilt, you’ll be thrilled to know that you can make homemade Nutella with just four ingredients and about 15 minutes! Stock up on hazelnuts and be prepared to have Nutella at every meal, because things are about to get intense…
