Dealing with OCD Obsessions are very intrusive and distressing thoughts or images that go well beyond the content of worries. Compulsions are repetitive actions or thoughts that are done to reduce distress, to ameliorate doubt and/or to "prevent" something bad from happening.Who among us has not had disturbing (e.g., obscene, violent, blasphemous, racist, mean-spirited, rude, etc.)thoughts pass through our minds? For most of us, these are dismissed with a shudder as mere "brain noise." For some of us, these are the catalysts for profound doubts and alarm. For example, many new parents may experience obsessional thoughts of unwittingly harming their infants. Such thoughts often provoke intensely irrational alarm and shame: "Am I the next Andrea Yates?
Ireland Passes Historic Legislation, Set to be the First Nation To Completely Cut Fossil Fuels In Brief Ireland's Parliament has passed a bill that stops the country from investing in fossil fuels as part of an €8 billion government fund. Fukushima Is Turning Into A Robot Graveyard After Multiple Probe Failures The 4 trillion yen ($35 billion) clean-up at Fukushima isn’t going smoothly. The former nuclear power station is quickly turning into a robot graveyard due to recurrent failures with the remote-controlled probes sent inside. Three reactors at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant experienced meltdowns following an earthquake and tsunami in 2011. Six years on, Tokyo Electric Power Company (Tepco) are still trying to find and remove the 544 tonnes (600 US tons) of melted nuclear fuel rods that are lost among the debris of the radioactive ruins. However, the remote-controlled robots tasked with this dangerous endeavor are failing time and again. Naohiro Masuda, head of Tepco's decommissioning program, said last week that the repeated robot failures are becoming an issue that needs to be solved, according to the Associated Press.
Car and Vehicle Science Experiments Cars are great subjects for science experiments because they are built to move. Cars need fuel to power their engines. The engine turns the gasoline into mechanical energy that moves the gears. The gears turn the wheels, and then the car moves. It may seem like magic, but cars really move by using the laws of science.
How to Cope With Obsessive Compulsive Disorder: 14 Steps Edit Article Edited by Rob S, Ben Rubenstein, Trackstar24, Julia Maureen and 18 others Are you constantly checking to see if your homework is done, lights are off, and doors locked? The LHC Just Discovered A New System of Five Particles A Unique Find The Large Hadron Collider (LHC), the latest addition to CERN’s accelerator complex, is the most powerful particle accelerator ever built. It features a 27 kilometer (16 mile) ring made of superconducting magnets and accelerating structures built to boost the energy of particles in the chamber. In the accelerator, two high-energy particle beams are forced to collide from opposite directions at speeds close to the speed of light. The energy densities that are created when these collisions occur cause ordinary matter to melt into its constituent parts—quarks and gluons. This allows us to interrogate the basic constituents of matter–the fundamental particles of the Standard Model.
