What Are Primitive Reflexes? Primitive reflexes are automatic movements that are not cortically controlled. They begin in the womb and continue up through 6 months to one year of life. For details about our NDD program, visit.
Moro Reflex The Moro reflex is a startle response – the first “fight or flight” response of an individual. Because the Moro reflex is connected to all of the other senses (light, sound, touch, smell, or taste) the effects of its retention are significant. How NDD Therapy Works Neuro-Developmental Delay is the retention of a cluster of primitive reflexes above the age of one as well as the absence or underdevelopment of postural reflexes above the age of three and a half years. When primitive reflexes are. NDD, Dyslexia, Dysgraphia, Sensory Processing Disorder, ETC. Many of the symptoms of Neuro-Developmental Delay at the brain stem level are also symptoms of some diagnoses such as ADHD, ADD, Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD), Dyslexia, Dysgraphia, Dysca.
Possible Causes of NDD 1. Stress during pregnancy 2. Complications during pregnancy 3. Premature birth 4. Complications at birth 5. Caesarian birth 6. Cord around the neck 7. Oxygen deprivation 8. Long Labor 9. Toxemia 10. Trauma (pre-birth, bir. Is NDD Therapy for Your Child? Your child may need NDD therapy for the following reasons: Inability of the child to recognize body-space or have body awareness, inability to control appropriate versus inappropriate behavior, overly-reactive or overly emo. What You Should Know About NDD NDD therapy is NOT a cookie-cutter approach. We do not have every child on the same therapy protocol. Each child is given a customized program based on their specific need. We do not teach coping mechanisms or compensation.

Hypersensitivity to sound If they have the abovementioned symptoms, they may benefit from our listening fit. Facts About Sensory Issues Did you know? In normal child development, sensory development begins in a systematic and strategic way: first, the vestibular & tactile systems, followed by auditory, visual, and proprioceptive. These systems do not function. Immature Visual System & Academics Many of the children we see at ABC Foundations struggle with academics because of an immature visual system. These children sometimes have great visual acuity but are unable to track a moving object. Others are able to.
Red Flags for NDD Immature behavior; Lack of understanding of social cues; Hypersensitivity to sound, touch, and light; Aggressive/Defiant behavior; Stimulus bound; Visual Perception Problems; Auditory Confusion; Poor Posture; Motion Sickness; Poor Adapt. Telltales of a Possible Vestibular Dysfunction An immature vestibular system affects learning and behavior. Signs of a possible vestibular dysfunction at the brain stem level are: 1. Poor balance 2. Delay in reaching developmental milestones such as he.

Screentime and Aggressive Behavior in Kids & Teens 6 The article concludes by saying “In today’s world, it may seem crazy to restrict electronics so drastically.
But when kids are struggling, we’re not doing them any favors by leaving electronics in place and hoping they can wind down by using electronics in 'moderation.' It just doesn't work. In contrast, by allowing the nervous system to return to a more natural state with a strict fast, we can take the first step in helping a child become calmer, stronger, and happier.”

Screentime and Aggressive Behavior in Kids & Teens 5 This article goes on to share 6 physiological mechanisms that explain electronics’ tendency to produce mood disturbance: 1.
Screen time disrupts sleep and desynchronizes the body clock. 2. Screen time desensitizes the brain’s reward system. 3. 5. 6.

Screentime and Aggressive Behavior in Kids & Teens 4 This article goes on to say "Both parents and clinicians may be 'barking up the wrong tree.' That is, they’re trying to treat what looks like a textbook case of mental disorder, but failing to rule out and address the most common environmental cause of such symptoms—everyday use of electronics.
Time and again, I’ve realized that regardless of whether there exist any 'true' underlying diagnoses, successfully treating a child with mood dysregulation today requires methodically eliminating all electronics use for several weeks—an 'electronics fast'—to allow the nervous system to 'reset' . If done correctly, this intervention can produce deeper sleep, a brighter and more even mood, better focus and organization, and an increase in physical activity. The ability to tolerate stress improves, so meltdowns diminish in both frequency and severity.

Screentime and Aggressive Behavior in Kids & Teens 2 An article in Psychology Today says "Chronically irritable children are often in a state of abnormally high arousal, and may seem 'wired and tired.' That is, they’re agitated but exhausted.
Because chronically high arousal levels impact memory and the ability to relate, these kids are also likely to struggle academically and socially" .

Sound Sensitivity in Children 9 After the Listening Fitness Trainer (LiFT) therapy at ABC Foundations, the child is usually given a daily follow-up work for some time so that old habits and compensations can be put aside and natural patterns for reading, writing, and processing engage.
Parents and teachers often notice changes in working memory or processing speed. Sometimes, we see changes in working memory or processing speed begin before the completion of the second half of the listening.

Sound Sensitivity in Children 8 The second phase of the Listening Fitness Trainer (LiFT) therapy program, Children are challenged to listen to the voice of their instructor as well as their own voices, which is often a new experience.
They are also asked to separate sounds in words and syllables, repeat directions verbatim, complete tasks in sequence, read aloud, and listen while being read to. Since the auditory system is stimulated through speech and processing, most children have shown improved enunciation, increased vocabulary, improved articulation, and better control of the volume levels of their own voices.

Sound Sensitivity in Children 7 The second phase of the Listening Fitness Trainer (LiFT) therapy program which is also 30hrs, introduces speech, beginning with sounds similar to that of a toddler and progressing according to the ability of the child.
This phase first reintroduces the child to the range of frequencies via listening to the music, and then a microphone is added and speech activities engage.

Sound Sensitivity in Children 6 During the first phase of the Listening Fitness Trainer (LiFT) therapy program, most parents describe small notable changes.
Parents and teachers notice signs of maturity as the children and teens begin to walk more confidently, make better eye contact, greet staff warmly, and engage in or initiate conversation. They also notice improved ability to focus and stay on task.

Sound Sensitivity in Children 5 During the first phase of the Listening Fitness Trainer (LiFT) therapy program, some children exhibit varying behaviors.
Some curl up and sleep through much of it, while others begin to play quietly and independent for the first time. Others become somewhat agitated and want to annoy others, while some show improvement in relating to others and start to engage with other children and share toys or activities. Some children begin to play with their voices.

Sound Sensitivity in Children 4 At ABC Foundations, we use the Listening Fitness Trainer (LiFT) therapy program because it is based on a developmental approach. The listening therapy is divided into two 30hrs sessions each for a total of 60hrs.
During the first phase, children experience sound similarly to that of babies inside the womb.

Sound Sensitivity in Children 3 As the Moro reflex is stimulated into inhibition through NDD therapy, the parents usually notice diminished sensitivity to sound, and in some cases, improvements in speech and articulation, the ability to follow directions, and occasionally working memory and processing speed. If there has not been much improvement after some months, I usually recommend listening therapy.

Sound Sensitivity in Children 1 Some children who are sensitive to sound may have an underdeveloped stapedius muscle. If the stapedius reflex is underdeveloped, chances are the Moro reflex has also not been fully inhibited.
