In Part Two of the story of Russ Terrana's earliest days as an enigmatic engineer, some of the more interesting events and recording sessions that occurred in the months prior to the purchase of GOLDEN WORLD STUDIO by Berry Gordy were told. Around the end of September, 1966, after months of rumors and a surprise, low-key visit to the studio by Berry Gordy about a month earlier, the announcement was made, and the takeover of Golden World by Motown was complete. Now, here's the third and final installment in the story of the earliest days in the brilliant career of RUSS TERRANA, the MOTOWN SOUND MAN! What a happy ending, indeed. Smithsonian acquires Parliament-Funkadelic Mothership. “I’m about to cry!” Parliament-Funkadelic frontman George Clinton said over the phone from his home in Tallahassee on Wednesday. “They’re taking the Mothership! They’re shipping it out! . . . But I’m glad it’s going to have a nice home there.” It isn’t the original Mothership. But by 1982, Parliament-Funkadelic’s towering debts forced the group’s Washington-based management company to trash the Mothership in a Prince George’s County scrap yard. An April 2010 Washington Post story about the Mothership’s disappearance sent the Smithsonian searching for it. Strait contacted Clinton’s management, and the bandleader eventually decided to donate the piece.
