Barriers to Inclusive Recreation. The purpose of this module is to equip recreation providers with the knowledge and tools that are needed to create inclusive recreation programs.
However, an understanding of the barriers that people with disabilities often face is critical to identifying what must be done to facilitate inclusive recreation. What is important is that you personally do what you can do to preserve the natural environment. Before kids will buy into that attitude, they need to care about nature. Spending time with them in the outdoors can make them feel like they are a part of nature and help them feel a desire to do their part in taking care of the world in which they live. As adults, we need to do our part to teach good environmental stewardship practices. We also need to remember that before anyone will practice good stewardship, they need to care. Running I spend a lot more time planning how other people will run than I do actually running. There are a lot of apps available for accomplished runners and still more for those who want to be. For people training for The News and Sentinel Half Marathon there are apps such as Couch to Half Marathon, as well as a very large group of apps that will do everything from measure your heart rate to allow you to “race” against a ghost of yourself recorded from a previous run.
