When a foreign manufacturer applies to license a veterinary biologic in Canada, it must designate a Canadian company as its commercial importer-distributor. The prospective importer-distributor must demonstrate that it utilizes appropriate facilities and expertise to import and distribute veterinary biologics in conformance with Canadian regulatory requirements. Once the veterinary biologic meets Canadian licensing requirements, CCVB issues an annual commercial import permit to the Canadian importer-distributor.
