Hunger Map Take a look at the Hunger Map and the accompanying 20 page briefing paper. Ideas & Values These briefing notes have been developed as a result of development education workshop discussions and debates in Ireland, Scotland, Wales and England; they have been designed to remind us of the larger, more fundamental questions that underpin specific issue discussions.
The Shape of Our World This module explores the basic shape of our world today: it highlights a range of key issues and challenges, how we see them and how others see them; it also explores a number of key debates around these issues. Hunger - "Living in the hollow of plenty" “Starvation is death by deprivation; the absence of one of the essential elements of life.
It’s not the result of an accident or a spasm of violence, the ravages of diseases or the inevitable decay of old age. It occurs because people are forced to live in the hollow of plenty. For decades, the world has grown enough food to nourish everyone adequately. Satellites can spot budding crop failures; shortages can be avoided. R. 16 million people (or 1.4% of total population) in the Developed World are estimated to be undernourished (down from some 20 million in 1990-92).

Development education in youth work aims to support young people to increase their awareness and understanding of the interdependent and unequal world in which we live, through a process of interactive learning, debate, action and reflection.
It challenges perceptions of the world and encourages young people to act for a more just and equal society at a national and an international level. This paper attempts to draw a sociological profile of young people in Europe between 15–19 years of age.
It points out changes in the socialisation functions of the three institutions, family, school and peer group. The second half of the article surveys quantitative aspects of the educational performance of this age group, pointing out similarities and dissimilarities between the various European countries. The final part is concerned with the effects of inequality of opportunity (socio-cultural, sex-based, and regional) on educational achievement. It is evident that education for this age group is in a state of ferment — new aspects include: the growing importance attached to guidance, the abolition of traditional types of examinations in many countries, the individualisation of instruction, the increased emphasis on technological training, and the greater range of options. In diesem Aufsatz wird versucht, ein soziologisches Bild von Fünfzehn- bis Neunzehnjährigen in Europa zu geben.
What if we can make it.
