Cool Open Source Games you should contribute to | Shinnok's Rants [Update1 20-07-2011] As per numerous requests, the games list has been updated with some more cool games that I’ve missed. They have been prepended to the top of the list and as before, they are in no particular order. While the popular conception when it comes to games for Linux is that they are almost non-existent, this is only true when it comes to big and popular commercial franchises that are backed up by giant video game studios and publishers like EA Games, Blizzard and Konami. 1. There’s not much to argue about whether the best algorithm should be used over an existing crappy implementation, but there’s lots to argue about whether a character class should be more powerful then another or if health and mana potions should be acquirable at the market or at all. 2. 3. If you’re the CEO or have influence over a hosting or isp company you could help Open Source Gaming by donating resources to those games that need it. Xonotic Zero Ballistics Speed Dreams

Thread of overlooked PC indie games recommendation Thread title speaks for itself! I dont think GAF pays enough attention to the independent scene. Since making the Super Meat Boy thread i was surprised at how many gaffers didnt knew where the secret characters came from. And i can see how its hard to stay up to date with the whole scene, so the idea for this is to make a coherent list of the best of the unknown out there (unknown meaning = Braid, N+ etc dont count). Keep in mind that a lot of the links listed beneath the games direct you to the developer's site. Guitar Scales: 10 Scales that Will Improve Your Solos Also check out the Blues Guitar Scales Master List. Guitar solos aren't an easy thing to learn and in a lot of respects they aren't an easy thing to teach either. Getting a great sound, speed and smoothness out of your solos isn't guaranteed outside of a hefty time commitment. However, there are certain things you can do and certain scales you can become familiar with that will speed up the process and help create a framework for you to start building your lead guitar abilities. I know a lot of you probably don't have the time or the desire to go searching through the vast archives of guitar scales, so I've taken at least some of the work out of it for you and compiled a list of 10 scales that I've found to be the most helpful to me. What to Think About Your goal should be to hear these sounds and memorize them with your ear as much as with your hands. Feel free to leave your thoughts and comments below. All scales are in the key of C, at the third fret position. Download PDF Version 1. 2. 3.

Soothe Sore Throats by Eating a Few Marshmallows I'm so glad you mentioned actual marsh mallow. Marsh mallow and slippery elm are the two of the most effective natural herbal throat soothers, and where this folk remedy originated. They work amazingly. It just so happens that coincidentally gelatin also soothes a sore throat, but not anywhere near as well as actual marsh mallow. People just kept recommending the cure, because it kept working...sorta. Interestingly enough real marshmallows were originally made by taking the round spongy pith from the stem, slicing and soaking in sugar or honey and frying in butter. later people started juicing the plant and whipping the foam into something closer to what we know today, eventually eggs replaced the plant similar to meringue, then people started adding gelatin, then we got the factory version which are just sugar and gelatin. Real marshmallows rock. :-) Yummy!

They are your opportunity to do what you do best. A good gig can also have a ripple effect, securing you a loyal fan base and ensuring good crowds at future shows. With that in mind, I’ve put together a list of ways you can make sure you have a full house at your next gig. 1. Don’t wait until a week before your gig to start advertising. 2. You have to have them. One way you can get some great art done for little money is checking out high school and junior college art departments. However, even if you can only go the old-fashioned route of hand-drawing a flyer and photocopying it on eye-catching colored paper, do it. Make sure everyone in the band has stacks and that they’re giving them out, hanging them up, and making them available. 3. These people can be your best allies as you start your career. 4. Technology is one of the most powerful tools you have.
