This will bug you... The indestructible micro-animals that can survive the vacuum of space - and most of them are after your blood By Eddie Wrenn Published: 12:01 GMT, 24 September 2012 | Updated: 16:48 GMT, 24 September 2012 There is only one creature known to man which can survive the ravages of deep space. It is the water bear - officially known as the tardigrade - and despite being a fraction of a millimetre in length and mostly consigned to a lazy life exploring pond moss, it is almost indestructible. You can freeze it at close to absolute zero - at minus 273C - or heat it to above 151C. Or you could keep it without water for a decade, subject it to almost any kind of pressure, or send it into the radiation-filled vacuum of space where it can survive beyond ten days without any damage.

More 3D on Street Art Utopia. 25 beautiful gig posters I remember coming out of gigs when I was a teenager, quickly scanning the streets frantically for gig signage or posters that were rarely left behind by the vultures that had left before the encore. They were prized souvenirs from the show you had just seen and if you were lucky enough to find one then it would go straight up on the littered wall at home (if you could find a space for it.) These posters were one of my first inspirations into Graphic Design and Illustration.

Studio Visit: Chad Hasegawa - Featured By Abby Wilcox 07 Feb 2013 @ 10:19 am | Categorized: Live_Art>, Studio Visit We’ve been working collaboratively a lot with White Walls SF, because the gallery focuses heavily on street artists, and as you probably already know, we love ourselves some street art. Artist Chad Hasegawa is no exception. I noticed his work about a year ago when I first saw his piece “Mother Market” on 6th & Market, painted on the roll-down of the Luggage Store Gallery. I literally stared at the bear from across the street – with his jaws wide and teeth rearing – and it appeared almost as if passers-by got swallowed from the sidewalk to forever disappear into the abyss of the bear, literally.

Via TRIANGULATION The world's biggest gallery: How street art became big business - Features, Art Then the internet came along and changed all that. In a little over a decade, a genre that was once dismissed as vandalism has used cyberspace to gain credibility as one of the most vibrant and creative scenes in urban culture. Inspired by Banksy, who has completed the journey from viral sensation to millionaire creator of $60,000 canvasses, Oscar-nominated movies, and bestselling books, a generation of artists is now starting to fashion lucrative careers out of their former hobby. "Today, somebody does a tag in Russia, China, Japan, or Africa, a friend photographs it and within a few hours it'll be viewed on websites all over the world," says Jeffrey Deitch, director of the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles, which recently opened a major show on the subject. "I think you can make a good case that street art is now the most influential art movement of the past 30 years.
The Naughty Nineties: A Saucy Victorian Pop-Up Book for Adults Only by Maria Popova A pull-tab time machine of risqué rites. Being a lover of unusual pop-up books and naughty Victoriana, imagine my delight at the discovery of The Naughty Nineties: A Saucy Pop-Up Book for Adults Only (public library) — a marvelous 1982 gem that transports you a century back, to the friskiest frontiers of Victorian society in the 1890s, illustrated in a black-and-white ink style reminiscent of Edward Gorey’s and outfitted with various pull-tabs and paper mechanics for your playful pleasure. And, hey, look — I made some animated GIFs of it. (Though they are no substitute for the analog-interactive real deal.)
