For website content publishers and content creators, there's a debate raging as to the rights and wrongs of curation. While content aggregation has been around for a while with sites using algorithms to find and link to content, the relatively new practice of editorial curation — human filtering and organizing — has created what I'm dubbing, "The Great Creationism Debate." The debate pits creators against curators, asking big questions about the rules and ethical questions around content aggregation. In trying to understand the issue and the new emerging rules, I reached out to some of the experts who are weighing in on how curation could help creators and web users have a better online experience. The Issues at Hand Who are curators? Where We Stand Now

Jonathan Stray: In 2011, news orgs will finally start to move past the borders of their own content Editor’s Note: We’re wrapping up 2010 by asking some of the smartest people in journalism what the new year will bring. Today, our predictor is Jonathan Stray, interactive technology editor for the Associated Press and a familiar byline here at the Lab. His subject: the building of new multi-source information products, and whether it’ll be news organizations that do the building. 2011 will be the year that news organizations finally start talking about integrated products designed to serve the complete information needs of consumers, but it won’t be the year that they ship them. News used to be more or less whatever news organizations published and broadcast. With so many other ways to find out about the world, this is no longer the case.

Content Curation: It's Going to Be HUGE It's counter-intuitive--especially to Americans. But often less is more. When Erin Scime wrote a blog titled: "Content Strategist as Digital Curator", it's pretty clear that she didn't expect to stir up a whole lot of emotions and anger. Yet, that's what she did--at least in part. "I feel like there are a lot of bitter librarians out there," Scime told me.

Scoop.it masterclass I've written about Scoop.it several times recently, but I'm still getting blank looks from lots of folks, so here's the how, and more importantly the why, of Scoop.it: Curation, it's all about curation. What is curation? Adding value to information. Activity - publish, don't just read. Use the Scoop.it bookmarklet (works great on the iPad) to publish interesting items you find, as well as the suggestions on the Scoop.it site itself.

Website wireframe A wireframe document for a person profile view A website wireframe, also known as a page schematic or screen blueprint, is a visual guide that represents the skeletal framework of a website.[1] Wireframes are created for the purpose of arranging elements to best accomplish a particular purpose. The purpose is usually being informed by a business objective and a creative idea. The wireframe depicts the page layout or arrangement of the website’s content, including interface elements and navigational systems, and how they work together.[2] The wireframe usually lacks typographic style, color, or graphics, since the main focus lies in functionality, behavior, and priority of content.[3] In other words, it focuses on what a screen does, not what it looks like.[4] Wireframes can be pencil drawings or sketches on a whiteboard, or they can be produced by means of a broad array of free or commercial software applications.

Proteomics - LC Sciences – Technologies for Genomics and Proteomics Discoveries Our proteomics products and services include the use of custom synthesized peptide microarrays based on the PepArray™ technology which enables the total customization of content on each individual microarray to suit your needs. The technology allows us to synthesize thousands of custom peptides (sequences can be defined to each single amino acid residue) on an addressable array to act as kinase substrates, antibody epitopes, or protein binding ligands. We can perform enzymatic/binding reactions in a high-throughput format and generate quantitative results in a controllable, enclosed environment with minimal sample usage.

Signal, Curation, Discovery - John Battelle's Searchblog This past week I spent a fair amount of time in New York, meeting with smart folks who collectively have been responsible for funding and/or starting companies as varied as DoubleClick, Twitter, Foursquare, Tumblr, Federated Media (my team), and scores of others. I also met with some very smart execs at American Express, a company that has a history of innovation, in particular as it relates to working with startups in the Internet space. I love talking with these folks, because while we might have business to discuss, we usually spend most of our time riffing about themes and ideas in our shared industry. By the time I reached Tumblr, a notion around “discovery” was crystallizing. It’s been rattling around my head for some time, so indulge me an effort to Think It Out Loud, if you would. Since its inception, the web has presented us with a discovery problem.

Ten Steps to Content Curation Content Curation is rapidly becoming one of the buzzwords du jour, as we all drown in a sea of content coming at us from every direction, through multiple devices and on a 24/7/365 always on timeline. What is content curation? My definition may be somewhat abridged from industry pundits – here goes: “organizing and sharing the most relevant content on a finite subject.” Why is content curation important to your brand or business? Simple answer – if you want to connect with your potential customers and market segment your content has to be relevant, concise and “speak to your market” in a meaningful way.
