One of the most valuable things a teacher can do for students is to help them identify resources for learning outside of class. If students can make a personal—even emotional—connection to material, they will go beyond what is required in an ESOL course in their study of English because it has become enjoyable, not just necessary. I knew I hit the jackpot when students begged to watch another episode of Fox Broadcasting Company’s hit musical comedy-drama Glee. For my advanced-level college students, I had created a listening log together with pre- and postviewing classroom activities on the first episode, titled “Pilot,” which originally aired in 2009.

Bite-size snacks of knowledge, TED-Ed Video Lessons are short, free educational videos written by educators and students, then animated by some of the most creative minds in the business. Pernilla's English Classroom: Peek of the week
I encounter students on a weekly basis who say "I hate reading" or "I just can't focus on a book" ...times are changing - a great deal - and it's a fact that teenagers are becoming more digitally literate, but unfortunately more BOOK illiterate. I find this to be a necessary part of our digital evolution, however I also see it as a tragic part of a lost era where kids today are finding it hard to focus on a book, or anything else, for a longer period of time. I still remember the books that I read as a nerdy teenager, the books that became a part of my daily life, the books that still linger with me because I was sucked into them and could never leave them, books that haunted me, books that taught me a valuable lesson or two, books that made me realize that there was a different, mesmerizing, world outside of my own room, books that I need to recommend to anyone reading this. The evolution of the book - Julie Dreyfuss
Prior to the release of the Amazon Kindle in November 2007, Stephen Levy commented in his Newsweek article, “Amazon: Reinventing the Book,” on the concept of the book as an invention. Quoting Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos directly, Levy writes that “‘books are the last bastion of analog.” This phrasing suggests the book as a set of definable qualities that can be manipulated, redefined, and commodified.
