Star Frontiersman For many of us, Star Frontiers was our first foray into science fiction role-playing. For a few of us, it was our very first role-playing game! We recall the first time we peeled the plastic wrap from the box, felt those little plastic ten-sided dice in our hands. We flipped through the book and were instantly transported to the setting through the artwork of Easley and Elmore, who brought the amazing races to life. It was distinctly different from other role-playing games of the same era: it didn't have restrictive character classes to box in your imagination; it was new and innovative rather than a rehash of older (though beloved) themes. It wasn't Star Trek, wasn't Star Wars, and wasn't Flash Gordon or Buck Rogers... it was new and we loved it.
Victory Point Games Sign of the Pagan from Richard Berg portrays the most famous battle of one of history’s most feared figures – Attila the Hun. It is considered by some to be the battle that saved Western Europe from the Huns and, for the most part, put an end to Attila’s wide-sweeping drives for loot. The Battle of the Catalaunian Fields was fought as the age of the Roman West faded away and the Dark Ages began. As Attila’s Huns and their Germanic barbarian allies moved into Western Europe, leaving a trail of pillage and destruction behind and threats of more violence to come, the remnants of the Western Roman Empire joined with their former enemies, the mighty Visigoth tribe, to stop the deadly invasion.
The Finer Points of Teaching Rules The board gaming hobby brings child-like fun to adults. This grade of fun exists at the core of board gaming and cannot be found in most other adult hobbies. Having tapped this "premium" fun is what keeps board gamers longing for gaming opportunities and eager to experience new games. Yet despite the fun present at most tables where games are being played, some board gamers lack one skill essential to assuring that every game experience is as fun and enjoyable as it could be. That skill is teaching the rules. Mike's 2nd Wargames Page Not a game, but a set of counters for naval battles. If you ever wanted to re-enact Jutland or Leyte Gulf, but your budget for miniatures limited you to the Monitor vs the Virginia, your ships have come in! I'm recreating every major warship that existed from the 1890's to the end of WWII, plus many ships that were started but never finished, or proposed but never built. They are sized for standard hex maps, but they're also suitable for games that use more realistic movement.

Organised by awesome people, hosted by PayPal/Gumtree/eBay with food from Pizza Express and booze from Unity, it works on the unconference model. In short: a conference without a plan. People turn up. Anyone who wants to try and run a session, can do so.

Gaming with Kids: From D&D to Fiasco It’s official, 4E D&D is a dead at the after-school gaming club. At the moment the students are really grooving on playing Fiasco – we’ve played three weeks in a row and I’ve had new kids showing up wanting to play, or just watch, based on word of mouth. That’s really odd (and cool) to me since having run the club for the past eight years that’s not something I’ve experienced. Unlike the D&D games I’ve run (including both AD&D and 4th edition), the kids are fully engaged, attentive, and actively participating. It’s really enjoyable to watch, and more importantly, to play.
