Photographer Captures the Mystical Beauty of Icelandic Horses. Photographer Drew Doggett is known for traveling the world, capturing extraordinary landscapes, people, and cultures. One of his most enchanting series to date, titled In the Realm of Legends, captures the one-of-a-kind beauty of Icelandic horses, who majestically roam the surrounding territory. Though many opt to capture the stunning landscapes that Iceland has to offer, Doggett takes it one step further by also embracing its unique equestrian population to create a union of myth and fantasy that's almost too good to be true.

Monster Bird Is One Of The World's Largest Eagles. With its expressive face, collar of feathers, and black and grey tones, there's no denying that the Harpy Eagle is a striking creature.

But if its distinct appearance isn't impressive enough, its height and wingspan certainly are. These powerful birds of prey can reach up to 3 feet 5 inches in height, with an overall wingspan of up to 7 feet 4 inches—making them look almost like a puppet out of Jim Henson's Labyrinth. Its incredible size and unique appearance has made the Harpy Eagle quite a popular figure on the internet. (7) Facebook. Fall Is in the Air: Images of the Season. Fall Is in the Air: Images of the Season

The autumnal equinox took place a few weeks ago, marking the end of summer and the start of fall across the Northern Hemisphere. Once again it is the season of harvests, festivals, migrations, winter preparations, and, of course, spectacular fall foliage. Across the North, people are beginning to feel a crisp chill in the evening air, leaves are splashing mountainsides with bright color, apples and pumpkins are being gathered, and animals are on the move. Collected here are some early images from this year, with maybe more to follow in the weeks to come.

A Glance at Daily Life Among the Caretakers of Britain’s Small Islands. A Glance at Daily Life Among the Caretakers of Britain’s Small Islands

This week, Alex Ingram shares a collection of images from small British islands. The waters surrounding Britain are speckled with thousands of small islands, only a small fraction of which are inhabited, some by as few as one or two people. Among those who call Britain’s small islands home are a collection of wardens — caretakers who spend their lives in quiet solitude, away from the crowded corners of our urban world.

Often employed by nonprofit conservation groups, their role is to maintain and manage the preservation of their small speck of land — its natural beauty, its wildlife — for future generations, often while conducting research into delicate ecosystems. 1 Square Mile • Population: 2 1.1 Square Miles • Population: 2. Seeking out small, ethnic minority groups around the world, Khimushin shoots incredible portraits that both honor and immortalize their culture. Street Artist Transforms an Ordinary Building Into a Spectacular Bookcase. Known for his incredible street art illusions, Jan Is De Man has created a charming mural in Utrecht that's bringing together the community.

Street Artist Transforms an Ordinary Building Into a Spectacular Bookcase

In collaboration with graffiti writer and tattoo artist Deef Feed, he transformed the anonymous facade of a building into a marvelous bookcase. And the best part is that all the literary works featured were suggested by local residents. The project began thanks to friends of Is De Man's, who live in the building. They'd been asking him to create a mural on their building for quite some time, but his original idea was quite different. Originally, he'd thought to paint a large smiley-face, as research shows that people's moods are lifted when they see a smile.

Ephemeral Art Series Features Mandalas and Spirals Made of Nature. Yorkshire-based artist James Brunt employs sticks, stones, and other ephemeral materials to create elaborate ephemeral art.

Ephemeral Art Series Features Mandalas and Spirals Made of Nature

Featuring intricate mandalas, infinite spirals, and one-of-a-kind sculptures, his series of outdoor installations continues contemporary art‘s tradition of creatively using nature as a canvas. Brunt produces his land art in a wide range of locations, including sandy beaches, wooded parks, and even lucky local schools. In every case, he uses materials found on-site to create his impermanent installations, finding artistic value in everyday ephemera. Ordinary rocks become perfect mandala stones, fallen leaves beam in radiating spirals, and overlooked twigs turn into twisting illusions in his beautiful body of work. Brunt photographs each design once it is complete. In addition to ephemeral installations, Brunt also experiments with other hands-on hobbies. The 2020 Macro Art Photography Awards Just Announced Its Winners And The Photos Are Breathtaking

Sure, we should be happy that we have opposable thumbs and are capable of an advanced and complex thought process as compared to most other species, but wouldn’t it also be nice to have something like super macro vision so that we could see things super up close? Well, until our eyes evolve into something like that, we are stuck with relying on technology. Speaking of which, the International Garden Photographer Of The Year competition has announced this year’s winners for the Macro Art photography contest. The Macro Art contest encapsulates tiny moments of beauty in gardens around the globe. The pictures are lush with color, showcasing the natural world that surrounds us from a magnified perspective. Shearing Sheep, and Hewing to Tradition, on an Island in Maine

This week, Greta Rybus shares a collection of photographs from a set of islands in Maine. Three miles off the coast of Maine, in a remote area northeast of Acadia National Park, lies a cluster of islands — including Little Nash Island, Big Nash Island and Flat Island — populated only by sheep. The Wakeman family, who live on the nearby mainland, are the year-round caretakers. Alfie Wakeman works full-time as a pediatric provider in the local clinic.

His wife, Eleni, works full-time as a speech-language pathologist and the assistant fire chief for the local volunteer fire department. Each spring, Alfie leaves his medical practice for three weeks to live on Big Nash Island for the lambing season. Alfie, Eleni and their daughters knew Jenny well. Unlike Mother’s Day, which began to be widely observed in 1908 and was quickly recognized as an official national holiday by President Woodrow Wilson in 1914, Father’s Day took several decades to be declared a national holiday.

It was first celebrated in 1910 in Washington state but wasn’t officially recognized until 1972, when it was acknowledged by President Richard Nixon.
