Poblado Bastida 3D.
The Epigraphic Record a.
Introduction The data for this study come from 236 inscriptions, a form of information in which the Samothracian cult is especially rich; 171 of these come from the island itself. These provide our sole access to our informants, e.g. the participants in the Samothracian network. The inscriptions are most abundant for the 2nd century BC through the 1st century AD.
The task of epigraphic publication is to complete the stone, which is often broken, heavily worn, out of context, full of abbreviations, and written in an idiosyncratic local alphabet. Dig under way to reveal ruins of medieval castle in Sheffield. Archaeologists have begun excavation work to reveal the remains of a lost medieval castle where Mary Queen of Scots was imprisoned.
Sheffield castle was one of the grandest and most powerful in the north of England before it was demolished by the parliamentarians in 1648. Its remains were covered by an indoor market in the 1960s – which itself closed five years ago – but its secrets have remained buried deep underground until now. A team of archaeologists this week started excavating a series of trial trenches in previously uninvestigated areas of the site, which is thought to have been inhabited since at least the 11th century. Ron Clayton, of the Friends of Sheffield Castle group, said he was delighted work was finally getting under way.
“In its day Sheffield castle overlooked the village of Sheffield. “It’s a great day. The dig, said to be the first comprehensive survey of the Castlegate site, is part of a £786,000 council scheme to revamp the area. . … we have a small favour to ask. Internationalisation of Clusters and Networks. Internationalisation of Leading-Edge Clusters, Forward-Looking Projects, and Comparable Networks Global challenges are often beyond the capabilities of regional innovation and value-creation chains and can only be addressed in a division of labour with international partners from the worlds of research and business.
That is why the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) is supporting the internationalisation of leading-edge clusters, forward-looking projects and other comparable networks with a funding programme by the same name that was launched at the end of 2014. Funding. Human Landscapes — Department of Archaeology. This cluster focuses on understanding the relationships between short- and long-term human and landscape processes through which cultural places are constructed and transformed.
This is achieved by using both established and innovative methodologies and a wide range of theoretical approaches that are applied to different ecologies at different spatial and temporal scales. The geographical scope of this research extends from the Cambridgeshire fens, to landscapes in the UK, different parts of Europe, southwest Asia and Australia, and focuses on topics as diverse as waterlogged Neolithic ceremonial landscapes, the nature of production in the medieval countryside, the complex inter-relationships between changes in social structure and the organisation of the medieval landscape. The Evolving Landscape Research Cluster. Networks and clusters. Over the last few years, the Federal Government and the states have initiated a series of projects which aim to create networks and clusters that promote new technologies.
Networks and clusters involve both industrial and academic institutions in their research and development activities. What is a cluster? LOEWE Schwerpunkt Pra historische Konfli. Untitled. Aerial survey, satellite imagery and geophysical surveying are all key elements of modern day archaeology. Since the early twentieth century archaeologists have used aerial photography to study the landscape. In different lighting conditions poorly surviving archaeological monuments can be visible on aerial photography. Crop marks, or differential patterns of growth in crops like wheat, can also be seen best from the air. These traditional approaches largely depend on appropriate lighting, growth and weather conditions. The ongoing development of remote sensing changes all this.
