Saturday - March 21st, 2014 | Location: Seattle Given the timing of us being in Juneau, someone made mention of visiting the Mendenhall Glacier, and that the large lake was frozen and we’d have about an hour journey with crossing the lake, as well as the hike up the glacier to the Ice Cave entrance. There were lots of pitfalls and it was all about staying on the path, but given the weather warming up, we didn’t expect the lake to remain frozen all the way through (the First mini glacier shot) with the heavy foot traffic, but it did and was an amazing trip in. The usual trek would be about 3 hours had the lake not been frozen!

NOT CONTENT The Second Holly Grove, between Avalon and Money, Mississippi, 2013 An extract from my notes on the 5th of February - 'Leaving Granada we came across an old store front near Holcomb, MS, and stopped to photograph it - the first of many finds of the day. Next we passed through Avalon, hometown of Mississippi John Hurt, which consisted of little more than a few houses, a few empty shacks, a gin warehouse (abandoned), and plenty of fields. We then drove to Greenwood, the 'Cotton Capital' and home to Furry Lewis, and got gas before turning back towards Avalon, in search of Money, MS - site of the story of Emmett Till. Driving along the red dirt road we stumbled upon The Second Holly Grove MB Church, est. 1894 - between Avalon and Money - a very secluded spot with some interesting gravestones, one belonging to somebody with the Hurt surname.

The Art Book: An Interview with Matt Johnston of the Photo Book Club I was interviewed recently by Sara Potter of ‘The Art Book Group‘ who have published a book on art books. It will be available shortly and I shall post a link to it, but in the meantime here is my conversation with Sara on the future of photobooks for anyone interested. SP: Where did the idea for The Photo Book Club come from?MJ: Essentially, the club came out of my own desire to learn more about photobooks, I was discovering old books all the time with the help of bibliophile Wayne Ford and was enthralled by them. I was also surprised that there were very few places to discuss these books, there were a number of great websites discussing the new, indie, or self-published books, but nobody was inviting discourse on the classics. I wanted to spread the availability and discussion of old and rare photo books, to discuss the authority of the photobook in our world, and to share ideas with others.
photography We tend to love animals even from a very young age. Some of the first words we learn (and first things we recognize) are “dog,” “cat,” and other usual animals for our areas. We even learn the sounds animals make when we’re wee young things – cows go “moo” right? Mother Nature didn’t stop with the family pet and animals on the local farm though. There are thousands, if not millions, of species out there in the world that seem rather odd to us, and we’re still discovering more! Pictures of Moments Speak More than Thousand Words...... Picture can speak thousands of words. Random pictures of insignificant moments always been the most important and most valuable. Photographers and painters beautifully imprint huge number of events, objects and types. Some do it by accident on the momentary desire.
