Less is the New More: Making the Most of Small Spaces Good Design For Living in Small ApartmentsAs people migrate to smaller spaces, good design helps a lot. This is something they figured out in Europe long ago, that if you don't have a lot of horizontal room you can go vertical. Tumidei in Italy makes some of the nicest stuff, like this unit with lots of storage under the bed. This unit just raises the floor high enough for beds to slide under. This one looks a bit clinical, but has two single beds plus a pull-out double bed in between. When you read in the New York Times that professional couples with children are moving into small one-bedroom apartments in Manhattan and sleeping in closets, perhaps this stuff could be useful. Pumpkin-Sugar Body Scrub Years ago when I managed a day spa, one of my favorite facials included a Pumpkin Enzyme Peel. That Pumpkin mask was so magically transforming that it inspired me to try working with at-home pumpkin treatments. Raw pumpkin has natural enzymes that eat away layers of dead skin cells and rejuvenate skin texture. In my kitchen I don’t have a whole lot of raw pumpkin on hand but I sure do have the canned stuff.

Beginning Permaculture - Ideas for Renters Permaculture Forums, Courses, News, Information So you’re renting and think why bother working on the garden when you’ll only have to leave. In my experience it’s always worthwhile. For one you may end up staying longer than you think, and much can be done in a short time for not much money. Create A Splattered Paint Flower Garden - My Flower Journal You can create a splattered paint flower garden. No drawing is needed just lots of spontaneous fun for all ages and skill levels. Each one turns out different depending on the color of paint you use and the amount of splatters you do. Supplies: Watercolor paper (I use 300 lb watercolor paper because it is heavy enough it doesn’t buckle when it gets wet.),watercolors and acrylic paints, masking tape, ruler, paper towel, round brushes (I used a size 4 and 8), disposable plastic table cloth or something to protect your work area from paint splatters. I like my watercolor paper to be 2 inches larger than the finished size of painting I am doing.

DIY Picture Tiles - You Will Never Buy a Photo Frame Again Lately I’ve been having this huge urge to decorate the house. This is big news. I do not decorate. Arguably, one of the reasons why is because I. absolutely. hate. to. buy. mass. produced. decor. Mr. Hide - SmartBeds from FlyingBeds Sofa Bunk Bed (Mr. Hide) Sofa seats three comfortably and transforms into a bunk bed when required.

Baby Rose Sugar Scrub Have you ever received roses that were stunningly gorgeous, only to be sad when they age? Well, I found the perfect solution to making our favorite rose bouquet last a little longer! Introducing: Baby Rose Sugar Scrub (my 5th sugar baby creation!). With just a few simple and inexpensive ingredients, a food processor, a pretty jar, and a few rose petals, you can make a beautiful DIY gift for yourself or for somebody you love! For this DIY sugar scrub recipe, you will need: Mobile Greenhouse Runs on Waste Vegetable Oil, Teaches Kids Sustainable Practices (Interview) © Compass Green Prior to the Compass Green project the only time a DIY greenhouse could have been considered mobile was when they were poorly constructed and a strong wind carried them off. After a successful Kickstarter fundraiser (which TreeHugger covered last year) Nick Runkle and Justin Cutter transformed an old truck into a mobile greenhouse, and have become vanguards of the mobile gardening trend.

Love Stencilled Pillow - Free "Love & Life" Template Love Stencilled Pillow – a quick and easy way to breathe new life into a plain pillow. Love Stencilled Pillow – Free “Love & Life” Template - I’ve been on the search for the perfect pillows for our living room for over a year now. As you can see, it’s a very monochromatic room (which I like in this instance) but it really needed a pop of colour. I picked the blue colour from a painting that’s on the wall over the piano on the opposite side of the room. I love the blue vase on the coffee table but I’ve have had so much trouble finding pillows with a similar blue. I was open to anything really but I had no luck.

DIY home decor Ever since I moved to New York, one of my favorite things to do is create things for our apartment. I love adding dramatic things that change the whole vibe of the room-- and nothing is more dramatic than a chandelier. A couple months back we moved from a teeny tiny apartment around the corner to the one we're in now. Since I think we'll be in this apartment for a couple years, it's been SO fun to be more aggressive with the decorating. For my bedroom, I really wanted to find a chandelier. :) Here's my new bedroom in the apartment.

42 Flowers You Can Eat George M. Groutas/CC BY 1.0 The culinary use of flowers dates back thousands of years to the Chinese, Greek and Romans. Many cultures use flowers in their traditional cooking — think of squash blossoms in Italian food and rose petals in Indian food. Adding flowers to your food can be a nice way to add color, flavor and a little whimsy. {Awesome} Paisley Stenciled Table Let’s talk stenciling. Now, I’ve done my fair share of stenciling (like on my pantry, toy box and end table), but it’s always been with a homemade stencil and it takes F.O.R.E.V.E.R. to do. Plus the final product always looks kinda wonky when you get up close and the design is very simple. Also it takes forever….that’s worth mentioning twice.
