Memphis - Part 2: Studio Toogood “The Hatch” by Studio Toogood. The project was an eclectic combination of memphis inspired patterns, and 20th century artists, such as David Hockney’s ripples, Keith Haring’s comic strip squiggles and Sol leWitt’s graph paper checks. The use of scale and materials, adds to the graphic playfulness of the space.

Mine » Reveiller Yep, I’m quoting computer animated seagulls from a kid movie, so what? Staycation, the collaborative home collection by Eric Trine and Will Bryant, currently on display at Supermaker in Portland, has got me feeling the hunger. And yes, if I had one or five of these items laying around my house, I probably would feel inclined to just stay home. Not to put things in a box, but this whole neo-Neo-Pop-Geo-Memphis-revisited thing, or whatever you want to call it, is officially implanted in the pleasure center in my brain. The patterns on that fabric.
In Residence: Jean Pigozzi's Villa Dorane by Matthew Donaldson for Nowness Art collector, photographer and fashion designer, Jean Pigozzi’s home ‘Villa Dorane’ is a visual playground and film maker Matthew Donaldson has captured it for Nowness as part of the ‘In Residence’ series. Pigozzi’s home, which is in the ever so beautiful Cap d’Antibes, was designed in collaboration with late Italian architect and designer Ettore Sotsass, and as we focus on all things Memphis we thought it is only fitting to share with you this absolutely mind blowing home. Pigozzi inherited the home in 1953 and soon worked with Sottsass to convert it into the unbelievable home that it is today.
LA Modern to Auction Off Ettore Sottsass Designs Architect and industrial designer Ettore Sottsass may not be a household name, but recent retrospectives at LACMA and London's Design Museum have broadened the audience for his office equipment, furniture and ceramics. One fan of his work was computer pioneer, movie producer and art collector Max Palevsky. While Sottsass' early career was spent working for clients such as Fiorucci, Esprit, the Italian furniture company Poltonova, Knoll International, Alessi and the city of Turin (designing its street furniture), it was in the early 1980s that Sottsaas founded the Memphis Group. With an international band of designers, the group launched a collection of 40 pieces of furniture, ceramics and household products. The Memphis group became known for its post-modern design sense, with a strong emphasis on color, irony and intentional assymetry.
