edutopia To get a sense of the best practices in contemporary school design, we interviewed four of the top K–12 architecture firms in the U.S.: Fanning Howey, Corgan, Perkins+Will, and Huckabee. Collectively, the companies bill hundreds of millions of dollars in work annually, and have built or renovated thousands of schools throughout the country and around the globe. Key insights into five common design principles—technology integration, safety and security, transparency, multipurpose space, and outdoor learning—surfaced during our conversations. Technology Integration At the dawn of the digital era, technology integration in most K–12 schools boiled down to the presence of computer labs, separate rooms filled with bulky terminals that students could sign up to use.

How to Transform Your Classroom With Augmented Reality Augmented Reality is changing education. What started out as something that was simply “cool” has become a way to engage learners like never before. In fact, while I was first introduced to Augmented Reality through the Aurasma App, I never imagined that while walking through a trendy neighborhood in Washington D.C. this past summer, I would come across the first public interactive augmented reality mural dedicated to the life of the actor Paul Robeson. Designed by artist Corey L. 28 of the Best Flipped Classroom Apps for Middle School Teachers At last count, there were over 80,000 educational apps available to teachers. There are apps for everything: literacy, STEM, productivity, audiovisual, etc. There are apps which improve accessibility for students with different learning challenges, i.e. text to voice, voice to text, etc. While many of these may be a dream come true for educators, the dizzying array of choices is also a nightmare. Teachers just don’t have time to filter through thousands of apps to find the one that works best for the needs of their students.
11 Quick and Amazing ways to use PowToon in your Classroom by PowToon! I recently read a study on creativity that blew my mind: “A major factor in creativity is education: not whether you had a “good” or “expensive” or “public” education, but whether you were encouraged to develop your creativity starting at an early age and continuing throughout your school years.” – Adobe.Inc We saw this first-hand, when Edson Tellez, a volunteer teacher in rural Mexico, wrote to us about how PowToon changed the way his students viewed the world, “they’re getting more creative, more receptive, and more dynamic in each class.” The mind blowing fact is that developing creativity is the number one determining factor in the overall success of your students! Even if you teach in the most affluent school, with the most high end gadgets - your students are still only as good as the instructions given to them. They are only as good as the lesson you present and the creativity you encourage.
VirtualiTeach Without a doubt one of the most innovative educators I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with is Mark Anderson aka ICT Evangelist. Mark and I met in 2015 at the Apple Distinguished Educator Institute in Amsterdam and since then we’ve collaborated on several projects including the App Wars event on iPad Educators, Mark’s #AppShareLive shows and even the first JESS Digital Innovation Summit (which Mark came over to Dubai to keynote for me.) Over the last year, one series of projects that Mark has had huge success with is his Periodic Tables. The range has expanded to include Periodic Tables of iPad Apps (two volumes), a dedicated STEAM apps edition and even a special Edu-Twitter version.
The Best Ways To Create Online Slideshows Boy, there sure are a lot of web applications that let you make free slideshows. Because of this glut, I thought it would be helpful to my students, readers of this blog, and me to do a quick review of many of them, and identify my picks for the best ones. So, here’s another “The Best…” list. In order to make it on this list (there is one exception), a site had to… * be free. * be simple.
