Pretzel Pizza Rolls {With Auntie Anne Style Pretzels} You know, I really don't consider what I do here to be that important. I mean, it's not like I'm saving lives or anything, but... Cheese. That's all there is to say. Limoncello Recipe Limoncello While searching for a good recipe for Limoncello, I found a lot of conflicting information. Some recipes use vodka, others use grain alcohol (without specifying the potency, which varies) and others even used rum! The alcohol-to-water-to-sugar ratios also varied widely, and it made me wonder if people had typos in the recipes, or were just posting a recipe they had never even tasted! So I started with the premise that grain alcohol will extract the most lemon oil and flavor from lemon zest. Then I adjusted the water and sugar levels until I had a recipe where I liked the potency and the sweetness balances the tartness of the lemon.

Glass Potato Chips Let's be honest: Potato chips are boring. Every time I wander the chip aisle of the grocery store, there is some supposedly new twist on the potato chip. Classic. This is Your Brain on Food Credit: Flickr user Toby___ Humans are carbon-bond consumers. Carbon bonds come into the front end of your feeding tubes in the form of fats, carbohydrates, and proteins; you then break those chemical bonds to extract energy, and excrete the residue as carbon dioxide, water vapor and various solid waste. Sometimes, however, some of these chemicals can make their way from your digestive system and into your brain; the consequences can be subtle or profound. The distinction between what is considered a food (something that your body wants or needs in order to function optimally) or a drug (something that your brain wants or needs in order to function optimally) is becoming increasingly difficult to define.

Cupcakes and Cashmere Share this image Share It Pin It When I first graduated from college, and was living in a dreary little apartment, mac and cheese was one of my few specialties. Granted it was straight from a box, but it was one of those meals that made me feel like I was home. I shared a gussied up truffle version a couple of years back (here), and since the Academy Awards are just days away, I thought I'd make it more party-friendly.

The Best Caramel Cake I've often tasted caramel cake on road trips in the southern states and they are almost always look very rustic and homemade, often with the caramel just poured over the cake in a simple but appealing presentation. I wanted to make one that looked a little more polished to maybe use as a celebration cake for a birthday or anniversary dinner. This one worked out quite well. The moist vanilla cake gets filled with layers of homemade caramel sauce, then covered in a caramel buttercream frosting and drizzled with a little more caramel sauce. This cake is utterly delicious and irresistible to caramel lovers but make no mistake, it is intentionally very rich and small slices are more than satisfying. This cake will serve twice as many folks as other layer cakes which makes it ideal for a great celebration cake.

Drunken Coffee Jello Squares OK, kids: This is coffee. In solid form. It’s been sweetened with condensed milk and booze-ified with a healthy dose of Kahlua—then rubberized into a blissful, cocktail-hour finger food thanks to the magic of gelatin. (If you know me, you know how much I love coffee, so you can imagine how excited I was when I came across the recipe.) Nutella-Mallow Pillow Pockets - Best Yummy Recipes When I tell you this, take me very seriously…..run, don’t walk to your nearest grocery store and make these today! I knew I wanted to make a Nutella treat the other day and when this simple idea came to mind I had no idea how crazy good it would be! The pastry with the gooey disappearing marshmallow and nutella make for a treat that you just must try for yourself! Enjoy!

Vacuum Seal Bags For long section hikes involving mail drops, packing daily rations in vacuum seal bags protects my food supply in the boxes that I mail ahead as well as in my backpack when I load up. I carry between four and six days worth of food, stopping at trail towns to pick up mail drops for the next four to six days. Whenever possible, I send boxes to hostels instead of post offices, because post offices can be closed when I get to town. Vacuum Sealing… Protects food from moisture which could cause mold growth.Removes oxygen which preserves the nutritional quality and appearance of dried food by limiting oxidation.Slows down rodents.Compresses food so it takes up less space.Keeps daily rations easily accessible and the remaining days undisturbed. If heading out for only a few days and not doing resupplies, packing daily rations in gallon-size Ziploc bags is sufficient for most conditions and will still keep you organized.

Homemade Peppermint Mocha Mix #SundaySupper #HolidayGift WOW. We are already over a week into November. The holidays will be here before I know it. I have not started shopping, but that doesn’t mean I can’t start getting prepared by making some super fun homemade gifts. This week’s #SundaySupper is all about sharing Holiday Gifts from The Kitchen. Emergency Small Batch Brownies Do you ever have days where you feel like you need a brownie so badly that you’re sure the sky will fall, continents will crumble, and gravity will release it’s sticky grip and throw us all into chaos if you don’t get one? No? Me neither. In unrelated news, here’s a recipe for making just 2 or 3-ish brownies. For those times when you don’t want to share. Or the times when you don’t trust yourself not to eat a full pan of brownies in one sitting.

Not so much a recipe… More of a “why have I not been doing this for years?” post. Remember back when I made caramel sauce? Restaurant Style Orange Chicken Alright you guys, seriously, this orange chicken tastes exactly like the best orange chicken you’ve ever had at any restaurant. I was very, very, very skeptical at first because I’ve never fried meat before and I was afraid it would turn out terribly. Kramer was adamant about having me make orange chicken that would remind me him Chinese take-out, though, and I couldn’t let him down!
