Education Applications in Reality Technology (MR, AR, VR) The education industry has historically been a little slow to embrace new technologies. Although the Educational Technology (EdTech) space is quite large, finding traction in cash-strapped public schools especially as been difficult. Sometimes, though, a technology comes along that is so clearly a watershed moment that the whole world stands up and takes notice. The specific applications of VR in the education space are too numerous to list. Of course, the classroom isn’t the only place people learn. 360° cameras are quite accessible and affordable these days, and that modern-day oral tradition, the YouTube tutorial, has very much taken to them. Applications of VR and AR in Education As far as the professional world goes, here are some of the most interesting applications of virtual reality in the education industry. Augmented reality NASA X38 display showing video map overlays including runways and obstacles during flight test in 2000. Augmented reality (AR) is a live direct or indirect view of a physical, real-world environment whose elements are augmented (or supplemented) by computer-generated sensory input such as sound, video, graphics or GPS data. It is related to a more general concept called mediated reality, in which a view of reality is modified (possibly even diminished rather than augmented) by a computer. As a result, the technology functions by enhancing one’s current perception of reality.[1] By contrast, virtual reality replaces the real world with a simulated one.[2][3] Augmentation is conventionally in real-time and in semantic context with environmental elements, such as sports scores on TV during a match. Pros & Cons of AR Layar Vision – Layar Developer Documentation What is Layar Vision¶ Layar Vision uses detection, tracking and computer vision techniques to augment objects in the physical world. We can tell which objects in the real world are augmented because the fingerprints of the object are preloaded into the application based upon the user’s layer selection. When a user aims their device at an object that matches the fingerprint, we can quickly return the associated AR experience. Please check out the video below which explains how layar vision works: For more inspirations on Layar Vision capabilities, please check out our blog for latest news. Developers can also download the webinar material where an introduction to Layar Vision was given to help you better understand the concept. Layar Vision is a key extension to the Layar Platform which brings new features and improvements to our developer community and end users. What is the scope of Layar Vision ? How Augmented Reality Works | HowStuffWorks Video games have been entertaining us for nearly 30 years, ever since Pong was introduced to arcades in the early 1970s. Computer graphics have become much more sophisticated since then, and game graphics are pushing the barriers of photorealism. Now, researchers and engineers are pulling graphics out of your television screen or computer display and integrating them into real-world environments. This new technology, called augmented reality, blurs the line between what's real and what's computer-generated by enhancing what we see, hear, feel and smell. On the spectrum between virtual reality, which creates immersive, computer-generated environments, and the real world, augmented reality is closer to the real world. Augmented reality is changing the way we view the world -- or at least the way its users see the world. In this article, we'll take a look at where augmented reality is now and where it may be headed soon.

8 Apps That Should Be On Your Mobile Device in 2017 Quite often, we find ourselves focusing on what we can do in our classrooms while using our Chromebooks. I’ve even heard once or twice technology in terms of “Classroom” and “Mobile” technology. This, of course, brings up the question, “Why not think of classroom technology AND mobile apps in the same sentence?” YES! Download Today Google Photos is AWESOME! One new app to my phone is called Google Allo. Another new app to hit the App store, Google Duo is a 2-way video conferencing application that honestly is much more reliable than using Facetime. I’m not going to end this blog post by saying that Google Maps is the best mapping tool on the planet.

Augmented Reality Glasses: What You Can Buy Now (or Soon) There has been a steady buzz about the virtues of virtual reality, but augmented reality is on the cusp of truly breaking out. Most people have been introduced to the technology via popular smartphone games like Pokemon Go or Snapchat's suite of filters. And with Apple and Google launching their own smartphone-driven AR platforms, ARKit and ARCore, the AR wave shows no signs of dissipating. But augmented reality is more than catching make-believe creatures and making yourself look like a cute puppy via a smartphone. Microsoft, Google Vuzix and others have been working to bring AR to us in eyeglass form. There are glasses that give you full-color "apps" that you can check at a glance and helmets that deliver directions in real time as you ride around on your bike or motorcycle. The following are the top augmented reality glasses that are available now or coming soon. Microsoft HoloLens Who's it for: Interior decorators?
