Introducing Brewhouse's Rails Template We’ve shipped over a dozen Ruby on Rails apps that all share the same base set of gems and configuration files. In order to save some time and ensure that our next web apps share a common set of best practices, we’ve put together the brewhouse-rails-template. The brewhouse-rails-template is a Ruby on Rails 4.2 application ready to deploy to Heroku with popular gems configured to work nicely together and a self-destroying script to bootstrap your app by renaming all configuration and classes to your application name. What about generators?

Learn to Hack Attack servers, crack passwords, exploit services, beat encryption - everything you need to protect yourself from evil. There are two rules of computer security: one – don’t buy a computer; and two – if you have to buy a computer, don’t turn it on. If you break these rules then you’ll be opening yourself up to potential problems. Images from the History of Medicine (IHM) Images from the History of Medicine (IHM) provides access to over 70,000 images in the collections of the History of Medicine Division (HMD) of the U.S National Library of Medicine (NLM). The collection includes portraits, photographs, caricatures, genre scenes, posters, and graphic art illustrating the social and historical aspects of medicine dated from the 15th to 21st century. The records from the Images from the History of Medicine database are also searchable in LocatorPlus. This database assists users in finding and viewing visual material for private study, scholarship, and research. This site contains some materials that may be protected by United States or foreign copyright laws. It is the users' responsibility to determine compliance with the law when reproducing, transmitting, or distributing images found in IHM.
Free Data Recovery and Data Backup Tool - Easy Way to Backup Your PC Data We had featured 9 Free Data Backup and Recovery Software Apps earlier. Here is another FREE one, EASEUS TODO Backup. We tried it on one of our old IBM Thinkpad Laptop running on Windows XP Pro. We just loved it and it was so simple that any non technical person can easily do it. What does EASEUS TODO Backup do? Software Engineering: Dead? I was utterly floored when I read this new IEEE article by Tom DeMarco (pdf). See if you can tell why. My early metrics book, Controlling Software Projects: Management, Measurement, and Estimates [1986], played a role in the way many budding software engineers quantified work and planned their projects. In my reflective mood, I'm wondering, was its advice correct at the time, is it still relevant, and do I still believe that metrics are a must for any successful software development effort?
In-depth introduction to machine learning in 15 hours of expert videos In January 2014, Stanford University professors Trevor Hastie and Rob Tibshirani (authors of the legendary Elements of Statistical Learning textbook) taught an online course based on their newest textbook, An Introduction to Statistical Learning with Applications in R (ISLR). I found it to be an excellent course in statistical learning (also known as “machine learning”), largely due to the high quality of both the textbook and the video lectures. And as an R user, it was extremely helpful that they included R code to demonstrate most of the techniques described in the book. If you are new to machine learning (and even if you are not an R user), I highly recommend reading ISLR from cover-to-cover to gain both a theoretical and practical understanding of many important methods for regression and classification. It is available as a free PDF download from the authors’ website. Chapter 1: Introduction (slides, playlist)
